The Mughal Emperor of India Shah Jahan in 1631 commissioned the construction of the Taj Mahal, for the love of his wife Mumtaz Mahal. Mumtaz died during the birth of their daughter. Stricken with grief from the loss of the love of his life, the emperor built this monument in dedication to the mother of his fourteen children .

Today the Taj Mahal stands as one of the worlds’ greatest architectural wonders. The Taj Mahal, was an inspiration of love for a woman who died during chidbirth. Today in 2007 a multitude of women worldwide continue dying giving birth. Maternal mortality during child birth is in most cases preventable. Yet it continues. In Somalia for instance, one in ten women die in childbirth, in india ,every 5 minutes a woman dies in pregnancy related deaths compared to Australia where only 1 in 5,800 mothers die in childbirth.
In tribute to Mothers Day May 13th 2007, Digitalism Magazine highlights the grave urgency for prioritizing maternal health as primary to nation building. Healthy Mothers Equal Healthy Nations.
As part of Digitalism Magazine’s Ruby REDFLASH campaign on Bridal jewellery, this article would like to stress the importance to educate brides and future mothers about the importance of maternal health.
