Diwali, or Deepavali, is a major Indian and Nepalese festival, celebrated by Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists and Jains across the globe. Known as the “Festival of Light”, Diwali signifies the victory of good over evil and lights are lit as a symbolic celebration of the renewal of life. 
Diwali comes in the month of October or November and this year in 2008 Diwali falls on October 28.
