The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show which took place early this month was noted to be a great success.Organized by The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC www.hktdc.com ) jewellery is just one of the many shows the HKTDC organizes to promote opportunities for Hong Kong companies. The jewellery at the Hong Kong International Jewellery Show reveals treasures of jewel delights from all over the world.
There were nearly 74.000 buyers from over 145 countries and 46,000 visitors. Hong Kong International Jewellery Show experiencd a percentage growth in buyers from mainland China, India ,Taiwan and Thailand as well as the traditional markets which include The United States , Germany, Italy and Belgium.
The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show was particularly successful in hosting two venues this year, one for raw stones and jewellery material and the other for finished jewellery collections in another location. This diversification of venues was perhaps a factor in helping buyers and visitors attend to their points of interest. The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show in making two venues was able to better target their audience into buyers and visitors. In total more than 3.850 exhibitors from 53 countries participated in both these venues. There were exhibits for gems and pearl , diamonds, silver , antique jewellery as well as manufacturing tools and equipment , jewellery displays and jewellery packaging , acccessories, watches and clocks.

The Hong Kong International Jewellery Show was also successful for another reason. China has been climbing to be in the forefront of the jewellery industry by a steady increase both in demand for gold, diamonds and jewellery in general while also attracting global market opportunities.
According to the World Gold Council , the market development organisation for the gold industry noted in a publication that,”Consumers around the world bought gold in record amounts in 2013, led by demand in China and India, with China becoming the world’s biggest gold market” .
The World Gold Council Trends report also noted observations for the demand of jewellery:
“Meanwhile demand for jewellery, the other component of consumer demand, increased by 29% from 519t to 669t in China, and by 11% from 552t to 613t in India, reaching 2,209t globally, the highest figure seen since the onset of the financial crisis in 2008.” (Published 18th February 2014.
